Personal Reflection

Picture
No matter how many years pass by, no period will provide as much influence on my life as my childhood. This is the main reason why this poem and its “water” metaphor have resonated so strongly with me. Within every action I do, I can perceive some element of my childhood. My writing has been influenced by reading literature as a child, while my attitude has been influenced by the hard work and success of my family. I can easily take a decision and peel it apart like an onion, layer by layer, revealing the childhood memories that swayed it. The memories of my family, friends, and school will continue to be the driving force behind every decision I will ever make. This poem takes that concept and applies it to a wonderful metaphor. The language flows exceptionally well and its narrative-like structure makes it both deep and comprehensible, a delicate combination in poetry. Furthermore, I was able to relate to this poem on a very personal level. For I know that when my boat sets out, it will have a firm foundation indeed.
